Our mission
31° North helps pilgrims and curious travelers find, understand and respectfully visit the sacred places of humanity. We cover 74 religious traditions, from the largest world faiths to small Indigenous and revival communities and the vanished religions of antiquity, and 288 sacred sites on every inhabited continent.
Why we built 31° North
Planning a pilgrimage is hard. Information is scattered, etiquette is unclear, and many tours rush through holy places as if they were ordinary landmarks. We built this atlas so that every traveler can understand a sacred place before arriving, and we design spiritual journeys that give each place the time and respect it deserves.
Our journeys are planned around darshan, prayer and festival times, led by guides who know the tradition, and quoted individually for each traveler or group. That is why prices are on enquiry: no two pilgrimages are the same.
Editorial principles
- Neutral and non-sectarian. We describe beliefs as their communities understand them and do not rank or judge traditions.
- Original writing. All text is written by our editorial team from reference works, official site information and scholarly sources. We do not copy text from other websites.
- Respect for access rules. Where a site restricts entry, for example Mecca and Medina, or closes on ceremonial days, we say so clearly.
- Living Indigenous traditions. We share only publicly available information and defer to the guidance of the communities themselves.
