About Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah, Delhi

Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya was one of the greatest saints of the Chishti Sufi order, famous for his compassion and his kitchen open to all. His tomb lies in the old village of Nizamuddin West, reached through a maze of lanes selling rose petals, sweets and caps. The marble shrine with its dome dates largely from the sixteenth century.

Nearby lie the graves of his disciple, the poet and musician Amir Khusrau, and of the Mughal princess Jahanara. On Thursday evenings and Fridays, after sunset prayers, qawwals sing the saint's praises in the courtyard in one of Delhi's most moving musical traditions. Humayun's Tomb is a short walk away.
