Frequently asked questions
Do Indians need a passport to visit Nepal?
No. Indian citizens can enter Nepal with a valid passport or voter ID card, and need no visa. Most other nationalities get a visa on arrival at Kathmandu airport. Carry the same ID throughout, as hotels and the Muktinath flight ask for it.
How do you reach Muktinath?
Most pilgrims fly from Pokhara to Jomsom, a short mountain flight, then drive about an hour and a half up to the temple at around 3,700 m. Flights depend on morning weather, so we keep a spare day in the plan.
Can non-Hindus enter Pashupatinath Temple?
The main temple courtyard is open only to Hindus. Everyone else can watch the riverside rites and the evening aarti from the terraces on the opposite bank of the Bagmati, which give the best view of the temple.
