About BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham, Robbinsville

BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham, dedicated in October 2023, is one of the largest Hindu temples built in modern times. Thousands of volunteers helped assemble its stone, carved by artisans in India from Italian marble and other stones, into a mandir in the traditional style with intricate pillars, domes and figures. It sits on a large campus in central New Jersey and was built over more than a decade. It is the work of a global devotional organization.

The temple honors Bhagwan Swaminarayan and other deities of the Hindu tradition, with daily arti ceremonies of lamps and song. Visitors are welcome to tour the grounds, where exhibits explain Hindu values and the volunteer spirit behind the project. The scale is astonishing, yet the atmosphere is calm and devotional. Festivals such as Diwali bring families together for prayers, food and celebration, and many first time visitors find the hospitality as memorable as the stone carvings.
