About Nine Mile, Bob Marley Mausoleum

Nine Mile is a small village in the hills of Saint Ann where Bob Marley was born in 1945 and spent his early childhood. After his death in 1981 he was buried here in a mausoleum beside the church on the family land. For fans and many Rastafari, the visit is a pilgrimage to the man whose music carried the message of Jah, repatriation and One Love worldwide. The village remains quiet.

Rastafari guides lead visitors through the childhood home, the stone where he laid his head and the mausoleum, where Bob rests with his mother Cedella Booker. Inside, Ethiopian imagery and the colors red, gold and green speak to Rastafari faith in Haile Selassie I. Show respect at the tomb, remove shoes where asked, and listen to the guides' perspective. The tour ends with music, food and a sense of community among visitors from around the world.
