About Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, Kartarpur
Guru Nanak founded Kartarpur on the bank of the Ravi River in 1504 and lived here for his last eighteen years, farming the land and building the first Sikh community. He died here in 1539, and the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib marks the spot. Both a shrine and a tomb stand within the complex, reflecting how Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs all honored him.
Since November 2019 the Kartarpur Corridor has allowed Indian pilgrims to cross the border from Dera Baba Nanak without a visa for a day visit. The gurdwara was greatly expanded with marble courtyards, a langar hall and a museum. On clear days the white domes can be glimpsed through binoculars from the Indian side.
