About Takht Sachkhand Sri Hazur Sahib, Nanded
Hazur Sahib on the banks of the Godavari River in Nanded is one of the five Takhts, the seats of authority in Sikhism. Here Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Guru, spent his last days, declared the Guru Granth Sahib the eternal Guru of the Sikhs, and died in 1708. The gilded gurdwara was built in the 1830s with funds from Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
Hazur Sahib follows some distinctive ritual traditions, and its inner chamber, the Angitha Sahib, displays weapons and relics associated with the Guru. Several other historic gurdwaras surround the town. Nanded hosts lively processions during Hola Mohalla and Dussehra, and pilgrims from Punjab often travel south by special trains.
